GENERAL SCOPE

Alloy 925 / UNS N09925 is a nickel-iron-chromium-based precipitation-hardening superalloy developed by Special Metals Corporation to meet the needs of harsh oil and gas production and chemical environments. The alloy is based on nickel and chromium with the addition of molybdenum, copper and titanium, and is strengthened by aluminum to form a γ' phase, while containing niobium to improve creep resistance. Its typical composition also includes iron and chromium, ensuring excellent corrosion resistance combined with high strength.

Alloy 925 / UNS N09925 combines the corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel with the mechanical properties of precipitation-hardening alloys. It performs well in high-temperature and high-pressure well conditions containing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, and can resist stress corrosion cracking (SCC), pitting and crevice corrosion. After aging heat treatment (such as aging hardening to HRC 30 or above), the tensile strength can reach more than 900 MPa, which is suitable for the manufacture of oil well pipes, drill collars, valves and offshore platform components. The operating temperature range covers -196°C to about 540°C, which is better than conventional stainless steel in sour gas environments.

The processing of this alloy requires attention to rapid cooling after solution annealing (about 980°C) to retain the solute elements. Subsequent cold working or aging (such as 620°C/4h) can further optimize the performance. It has good weldability and is suitable for processes such as TIG and MIG, but requires matching welding materials (such as INCONEL 625 welding wire). Typical applications include downhole tools, nuclear waste containers and chemical reactors. It is one of the key materials for deep wells, ultra-deep wells and acidic environments.
