UNS N06985/ Alloy G3
UNS N06985 is a cold-worked nickel-based alloy engineered for exceptional corrosion resistance in highly sour (H₂S) environments with high chloride levels, while delivering high strength up to 410°F. Its elevated nickel and molybdenum content enhances the performance limits of nickel alloys in sour service conditions, offering outstanding resistance to chloride-induced corrosion and dissolved oxygen. This combination of properties makes it an ideal material for downhole tubular parts, packers, and other subsurface tools used in HPHT sour wells, saltwater injection wells, and acid gas injection (AGI) wells.
In accordance with MR0175/ISO15156 standards, UNS N06985 Alloy is categorized as a Type 4d alloy for sour service applications. It imposes no restrictions on H₂S partial pressure at temperatures below 310°F and can withstand 300 psi H₂S at 425°F. Nevertheless, final material selection must fully evaluate all environmental parameters, including H₂S, CO₂, operating temperature, pH value, and chloride concentration, to ensure reliable and safe performance in downhole conditions.
