The heavy weight drill pipe (HWDP) is usually located between the drill pipe and the drill collar. Its function is to prevent sudden changes in the cross section of the drill string, reduce fatigue of the drill pipe, and can replace a part of the drill collar to reduce costs. It can reduce torque and lifting load in deep well drilling; when drilling directional wells, it can drill at high speed under low torque to reduce wear and tear of the drill string.
